Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 August 2026

Action Panic has no accounts, no sign-in and no servers of its own. It never asks for your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos or location. Your scores stay on your phone. The app does use Google Analytics for Firebase and Google AdMob, which is what this policy mostly describes.

This policy covers the Action Panic Android app and this website. The app is made by Itamar Shefi ("we", "us"), an individual developer.

What stays on your device

The app stores two things in local browser storage inside the app. Neither is transmitted anywhere, and both are deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its storage:

  • Your high score.
  • Whether you have seen the tutorial, so it isn't shown twice.

Sensors and permissions

Action Panic is a reaction game built on your phone's sensors. Each of these is read live during play and used only to decide whether you performed the action in time. Sensor readings are never recorded, stored or sent off the device.

  • Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — used only for the "blow" action. The app measures the loudness of low-frequency sound to detect a puff of air. Audio is analysed in memory in real time and immediately discarded. Nothing is recorded, saved, uploaded or transcribed, and speech is never interpreted. If you deny the permission, the blow action is removed from the game and everything else still works.
  • Motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) — used for the shake, tilt and flip actions. On Android these need no runtime permission.
  • Ambient light sensor — used for the "cover" action, by noticing when the light level drops. The app does not request or use the camera.
  • Touchscreen — used for the tap, two-finger tap, pinch and swipe actions.
  • Internet (INTERNET) — used to load ads and send analytics events. The game itself runs entirely offline.

Analytics

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the game is played. The events sent are:

  • game_started — a game began.
  • game_over — a game ended, along with the score reached.
  • tutorial_completed — the tutorial was finished.
  • ad_shown — an interstitial ad was displayed.

Alongside these events, Firebase automatically collects a pseudonymous app instance identifier plus standard technical information such as device model, operating system version, app version and approximate (country-level) location derived from IP address. We use this only in aggregate, to see how far players get and whether the difficulty curve works. We cannot identify you from it.

Advertising

The app shows occasional full-screen interstitial ads between games through Google AdMob. To serve and measure those ads, Google may use your device's Advertising ID — a resettable identifier that is not tied to your real identity — together with information such as your device type, general location and interactions with the ads. This is why the app declares the AD_ID permission.

Ad data is collected and used by Google as an independent controller under Google's privacy policy. We receive only aggregate performance figures, never information about individual users.

This website

The Action Panic website is hosted on GitLab Pages and uses PostHog to count page visits and clicks on the download button. This is limited to the website — it is not part of the app.

The feature tiles on the home page are a playable demo: touch gestures and, on Android, the motion sensors are read in your browser to light up the matching tile. The microphone and the ambient light sensor are only used if you press the button on those tiles and accept your browser's prompt. As in the app, everything is measured in memory and immediately discarded — no audio or sensor reading is recorded or sent anywhere. We do log which of the nine actions were performed, as a demo_action event in PostHog, to see whether the demo is being used at all.

What we never do

  • We do not sell or rent your data.
  • We do not ask for or collect names, emails, phone numbers, contacts, photos or precise location.
  • We do not record or store audio, video or sensor data.
  • We do not run our own servers or databases, so there is no account or profile to be breached.

Your choices

  • Microphone. Revoke it any time in Android Settings → Apps → Action Panic → Permissions. The game continues without the blow action.
  • Ad personalisation. In Android Settings → Privacy → Ads you can reset or delete your Advertising ID and turn off personalised ads. You will still see ads, but they will be less targeted.
  • Deleting your data. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on your device. To request deletion of analytics or advertising data already collected, email us at the address below and we will pass the request to Google.
  • Access, correction and objection. If you are in the EEA, UK or a similar jurisdiction, you can ask us what data relates to you and request its deletion. Because we hold nothing that identifies you, this usually means forwarding the request to Google.

Data retention

On-device data lives until you clear the app's storage or uninstall it. Analytics and advertising data are retained by Google according to their own retention settings and policies; we do not keep separate copies.

Children

Action Panic is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided data through the app, contact us and we will act on it.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts collecting or sharing anything differently, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
